The Whaley House was constructed in 1857 in a Greek Revival style, as the home of Thomas Whaley and his family. Since that time, it has been a general store, county courthouse, and the first commercial theater in San Diego. It is now a California Historical Landmark and museum, maintained by the Save Our Heritage Organisation (SOHO).
Reported visual effects include the sighting of the apparition of a woman, silhouettes and shadows, and the ghost of one Yankee Jim Robinson; sounds of piano music, the movement of objects the smell of cigar smoke and perfume.
Amateur investigators have obtained what they believe to be EVP's and photographic evidence of ghosts. Renowned investigator Hans Holzer believed the property to be haunted following his investigation there.
